Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Recognition of coursework and examination / placement in higher subject semester
How can I have services from my previous degree programme or a change of subject credited? Where can I find out what can be recognised?
If you have previously studied at another university or wish to enrol on a different (partial) degree course within the university, you must request credit transfer six weeks after the start of the lecture period of the semester in which you will begin your studies at the University of Greifswald or in the new degree course. If you have completed the exam and non-assessed coursework within the framework of a period of study abroad, credit transfer is possible at any time. However, the entitlement to credit expires with the registration of the exam that is to be replaced by the services to be credited.
The request must be submitted to the Central Examination Office together with the proofs (Transcript of Records, Confirmation of Stay, assessment components, module descriptions etc.).
The respective examination board decides whether and to what extent a transfer of credits and non-assessed coursework can take place. However, the Subject Advisors are available to provide advice.
I would like to transfer from another university of applied sciences (UAS) to the University of Greifswald. What do I have to do?
First of all, you should find out whether the degree course you are interested in is subject to admission restrictions here, possibly also in higher subject semesters. If so, do not forget your application. If not, you must request deregistration from your previous university of applied sciences (UAS) before enrolment. If you wish to enrol in the same or a related degree course, you should request the transfer of previous services before enrolment if possible. Further information on the credit transfer procedure can be found under IV. Information on the application procedure and enrolment can be found on the website of the Students' Registration Office.
I need a notice of placement/transfer of credit for enrolment or re-registration at the Students' Registration Office. Where can I get this?
You will receive the placement decision from the Central Examination Office. However, this happens automatically when you request the transfer of credits (see question 1).
Can I have internships or training/appointments/secondary employment completed before my studies recognised as an internship?
Depending on the degree course, this is possible. Here too, the subject advisors will be happy to help you. The decision is then made by the examination board at the request of the student. If it is an equivalent service, the occupation can also be recognised as a module examination.
What happens if I have not received a grade for an examination and/or marked coursework, but need a grade for credit transfer?
The examination and/or marked coursework can still be recognised. In this case, only the note "recognised" is added and later noted on the certificate.
What do I have to do if I want to study abroad?
The International Office (IO) offers information, e.g. on exchange programmes and logistics, but also contacts to partners all over the world. You can study at a partner university or find your own host for your period of study abroad or internship. At the IO, you can find funding options for your project and apply for scholarships. Take advantage of first consultations, subject-specific information events, country evenings and, above all, the International Day to plan and prepare your individual project abroad.
Further information is available directly from the International Office.
