Bilingual Signs at the University of Greifswald

As supplementary measures to the University’s internationalisation strategy, the Translation Coordinator also provides a glossary that can be accessed by all members of the University, and which should guarantee a consistent use of English. Due to a decision made by the University’s governance, the glossary uses British English; it contains translations of administrative terms as well as courses and degrees and is updated on a regular basis. The Translation Coordinator’s webpages also provide standardised English sentences, e.g. for job announcements, and a style guide for writing English texts.

The Translation Coordinator works at the Central Translation Office for the University of Greifswald, the Hochschule Wismar University of Applied Sciences, Technology, Business and Design, Hochschule Stralsund University of Applied Sciences, the Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences and the Rostock University of Music and Drama. The Central Translation Office’s work aims to improve the welcoming culture of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s universities; this includes the translation of administration documents, university websites and the creation and continued development of term bases.

The Translation Coordinator will be happy to read over any translations that have been produced for the general public or for members of staff/students and are related to the University of Greifswald.

If you have any questions or input ;-) , feel free to contact Christopher Gray at the Central Translation Office.
