“The Strategy 2035, which was recently passed by the Senate, provides us with a pioneering set of guiding principles,” explains Rector Prof. Dr. Katharina Riedel. “We have set ourselves ambitious goals for teaching, research, administration, and knowledge transfer, which we will set about realising together.”
The University is committed towards future-oriented and cosmopolitan teaching that prepares students in an individual learning atmosphere for the challenges of the dynamic professional world. Research-led teaching, interdisciplinarity, digital skills, and international study formats are the focal points. Research centres around the research domains Baltic Sea Region, One Health, and Prevention. Researchers from all five faculties contribute to the topics in an interdisciplinary manner. Targeted funding, strategic professorial appointments and the consolidation of strong links to external research partners in the next ten years shall enable excellent research collaborations that reach international audiences.
“It is particularly important to me that we think further ahead about knowledge – for society, culture, and the industry,” underlines Rector Prof. Dr. Katharina Riedel. “My aim is to use science communication, cultural festivals, citizen science, and the fostering of entrepreneurial mindset to reinforce the roots of the University and its research in the region and strengthen its external visibility.” This is only possible with a strong governance, administration, and infrastructure. Registrar Dr. Juliane Huwe explains the ten-year goals for the administration: “We are placing emphasis on the digitalisation of the administration, staff development and the recruitment of skilled employees, service-oriented processes, and sustainable campus concepts. This will make it possible for the administration to establish efficient framework conditions for teaching and research.” The University’s corporate assets will be used responsibly and strategically to enable investments in the future.
Greifswald shall be further strengthened as an attractive location for science and place to live. In line with this, the University is committed towards diversity, internationality, and participation. It promotes an open, family-friendly and non-discriminatory campus culture.
