| academic staff, Promotionsstelle | deadline:

At the Institute of Pharmacy, Working Group Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, which belongs to the University of Greifswald’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, there is a job vacancy, subject to the allocation of funds, expected to be available from 01 October 2025, for a full-time position (100 %) as

Postdoctoral Research Associate.

The position is limited until 30 June 2029. Payment will be made in accordance with pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft. The position is suitable for part-time employment.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates for the newly established Collaborative Research Centre “CONCENTRATE”, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). CONCENTRATE combines expertise from the University of Greifswald, the University of Bremen, the MPI for Marine Microbiology Bremen, the MPI of Colloids and Interfaces Potsdam, the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research and the Technical University of Berlin. The research programme of CONCENTRATE aims to decipher the molecular and microbial processes that lead to the stabilisation of glycans in the ocean. In an interdisciplinary approach, the research team combines laboratory experiments with measurements in natural marine habitats. The focus is on the interactions between algae, bacteria, fungi and their glycans and proteins, examined at an atomic level in the Ångström range. Exploring these fundamental microbiological and biochemical mechanisms will improve our understanding of carbon fluxes in the oceans.

You will work as a scientific and administrative officer and support all strategic activities within the Collaborative Research Centre in close collaboration with the coordinators and the Steering Committee. This includes the organisation of the regular TRR 420 project meetings, joint synergy experiments between different subprojects, training workshops and the planned conference in 2027. Furthermore, you will organise the supervision of the young scientists, doctoral candidates and postdocs as well as the support of CONCENTRATE subproject activities by student assistants. You will be responsible for all administrative tasks of the TRR office. This includes the entire financial administration of TRR 420, the organisation of regular project meetings, the invitation of guest speakers and communication with the DFG.

Tasks:

  • Administrative support for the coordinators
  • Organisation of all project meetings, workshops and a conference
  • Financial management of the TRR 420
  • Administrative support for early career researchers, doctoral candidates, postdocs and assistant scientists
  • Coordination of joint synergy experiments between different sub-projects
  • Supervision and invitation of guest scientists
  • Coordination of all measures to promote the early career phase, gender equality and public relations work
  • Support in the preparation and submission of scientific publications
  • Communication within the network and with the DFG
  • The position provides the opportunity for academic qualification; tasks will be assigned that are conducive to the preparation of a doctorate

Required:

  • M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) and doctoral degree in either biology/biochemistry/pharmacy or another related discipline by the time employment starts
  • Scientific background directly related to CONCENTRATE’s areas of research interest
  • Experience with a wide range of scientific approaches in experimental microbiology, biochemistry or marine ecology
  • Knowledge in the field of project or data management
  • Excellent English language skills

Desired:

  • Strong interest in basic research related to marine microbiology and biochemistry
  • High level of motivation and above-average qualifications for actively joining an interdisciplinary research and training environment
  • Ability to work independently with hands-on mentality, team spirit, helpfulness and reliability
