At the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, which belongs to the University of Greifswald’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, there is a job vacancy that is expected to be available from 1 July 2026, subject to budgetary regulations, for a full-time position as

Postdoctoral Teaching Associate.

The position on offer is permanent and suitable for part-time employment. There is the option of transforming the position into a civil service post. Payment will be made in accordance with pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft

Tasks:

  • Primarily teaching (currently 12 hours à 45 min. per week per semester pursuant to LVVO-MV)
  • Course design, improvement and holding of courses in the new teacher-training degree course for future teachers of mathematics
  • Advising and supervising of students, conducting exams and participating in academic self-governance
  • Research in the field of computer science didactics or computer science in general
  • Development of the curriculum (introduction and improvement) for the teacher-training degree course for future teachers of mathematics.
  • Participation in academic advising for students training to become mathematics teachers

Required:

  • Postgraduate degree (Erste Staatsprüfung (1st State Examination), Master of Science or equivalent) in mathematics and doctoral degree (PhD) in mathematics (or teaching mathematics in higher education)
  • Proven experience in independently teaching university-level mathematics courses (e.g. demonstrated through teaching evaluations).
  • Excellent German and English language skills

Desired:

  • Experience in subject-specific academic training of pre-service teachers.
  • Demonstrated teaching and pedagogical competencies (e.g. university-level teaching certificates).
  • Practical school-based experience.
  • Experience in supervising undergraduate and/or postgraduate theses.
  • Experience in academic publishing.
  • Confident professional demeanour and the ability to act in an appropriate and solution-oriented manner.
