by 1 October 2027. The position will be available subject to the fulfilment of budgetary requirements.
We are looking for a scholar who is able to represent the full scope of teaching and research in the subject area media education and media literacy. Candidates require a focus in empirical research on media education in the school context. Outstanding research achievements in the field of media education, in particular in connection with digital media and current technological developments, such as artificial intelligence, must be documented by relevant publications in national and international scientific journals and the successful acquisition of externally-funded projects. We expect applicants to have broad expertise in media education, which fits in seamlessly with international discussions on digital learning and educational research. Candidates must be willing to collaborate with university and non-university stakeholders, as well as with local institutions. Experience of academic self-government is advantageous.
The successful candidate will be required to teach classes for the teacher-training degrees “Primary Education” and the new “Secondary Education”. The future holder of the position shall have the task of linking media education issues with teaching and learning theory and qualifying students in dealing with the challenges of digital transformation in educational processes.
The job specifications are defined in § 58(1) of the Landeshochschulgesetz - LHG M-V (State Higher Education Act): a university degree and doctorate – which in the case of the professorship being appointed, must have been completed in the field of educational science with some classes on media education, or in the field of media education –, teaching aptitude, and further academic achievements in the field of media education that are usually proven by a junior professorship, habilitation or other equivalent achievements (cf. § 58(2) LHG M-V). In accordance with § 58(3) LHG M-V, applicants who have passed the Zweite Staatsprüfung (Second State Examination) or have gained an equivalent qualification and have at least three years of teaching experience at schools will be considered with preference.
The University of Greifswald supports and demands family-friendly leadership.
In accordance with § 61 LHG M-V, the professor appointed will be assigned the status of a civil servant with unlimited tenure (Beamtenverhältnis auf Lebenszeit); alternatively, if the applicant is not permanently available: limited tenure as a civil servant or public service employee. As a general rule, permanent tenure as a civil servant can only be awarded for the first time to persons who have not yet ended their 50th year of life when they enter employment.
This vacancy is open to all applicants, irrespective of gender. The University of Greifswald would like to increase the proportion of women in areas in which they are underrepresented. Thus, applications from women are particularly welcome and will be treated with priority if they have the same qualifications and as long as there are no clear reasons which make a fellow applicant more suitable. Severely disabled applicants with the same professional and personal qualifications will also be given preference.
Unfortunately, application costs (e.g. travel expenses for interviews) will not be reimbursed by the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
