Tools and Software
At the University of Greifswald, there are various software programmes and tools available to you, some of which you can use on university computers under campus licences, whilst others are entirely browser-based (some of which are only accessible from within the Eduroam network).
Reference management
Through state and campus licences, the Central University Library supports you with digital reference management.
The Central University Library not only offers courses on literature research – such as an introduction to using digital catalogues and databases – but also online courses on reference management and knowledge organisation, for example using the Zotero tool.
Tools digital education
Which tools would you like to use? The University of Greifswald’s Digital Toolbox provides an overview of legally compliant tools that you, as lecturers and students, can use for your studies and teaching. In addition to the applications integrated into the Moodle learning management system, our tool for creating digital noticeboards (“Taskcards”) and the audience response system (“Wooclap”) are particularly popular with lecturers. The latter is also available to all students via a campus licence.
Learning platforms
Here you will find an overview of the learning and examination platforms available at the University of Greifswald, along with the relevant access details, e.g.:
- Moodle
- Exam: Examination system
- eCampus of the Universitätsmedizin
- DigiTiB
OpenProject
OpenProject is a project management software tool that can help project managers and other (associated) staff to organise their projects at the university efficiently. The tool’s various features enable transparent planning, implementation and monitoring of project progress for all those involved. The project space serves as a central hub for all project-related activities, such as the allocation and processing of tasks and work packages, project-related communication and the management of relevant documents.
AppHub
The AppHub can be accessed by all staff and students at the University of Greifswald via the central user portal. The software and hardware (high-performance computers) are provided by the University Computer Centre, enabling users to run even resource-intensive programmes via the cloud. This includes generative AI, which is, however, currently still in the beta stage.
Please log in at the top right of the page using your university-wide user ID.
OpenSlides
OpenSlides is a “free, web-based presentation and meeting system for displaying and managing the agenda, motions and elections at an event.” At the University of Greifswald, it is primarily used to conduct anonymous elections in various committees. The (digital) infrastructure is provided by the University Computer Centre, whilst the system is administered by the respective applicants themselves.
Collaboration
To communicate with their students, colleagues and other individuals across departments, faculties and universities, to edit files directly and in real time, or to organise and plan project stages and processes, we would like to draw your attention here to software tools for collaborative work.
Video conferences
The University of Greifswald provides the following video conferencing systems:
- Zoom
- BigBlueButton (for teaching)
- Jitsi
Survey software
For online surveys carried out as part of research and project initiatives, the university recommends SoSciSurvey.
