FAQ - Qualification and degree certification
on topics such as procedure, transcript of records, cohort, (re)issue, authentication, etc.
The following information is of a general nature and does not replace students' obligations to cooperate, such as reading the relevant examination and study regulations.
Where can I get a transcript of records with a relative average grade or proof for my application?
A verified transcript of records can be created independently online via the self-service portal. If the transcript of records does not show a relative average grade, please contact the responsible member of staff at the Central Examination Office.
What happens when I have successfully passed my last exam? Will the certificate be sent to me automatically? Will I be automatically de-registered?
As soon as you have successfully completed the last examination, you will first receive written confirmation that you have successfully completed your degree programme. The final documents (certificate, diploma, diploma supplement and transcript of records, if applicable) will then be issued within 4 weeks. As soon as these have been signed, you will receive an e-mail confirming that the final documents have been finalised. From this point onwards, you can collect your certificate documents from the Examinations Office. Once your address has been confirmed, the certificate documents can also be sent to you by post.
You can apply for de-registration at the Registrar's Office once you have received your certificate documents at the latest. Here you will also receive a corresponding certificate of de-registration, which is necessary for dealing with the authorities but also for enrolment at another university.
Will it be noted on my certificate how long I have been studying?
No. This information can only be found on the certificate of exmatriculation or the certificate of enrolment.
I have lost my certificate. What can I do?
If you have lost your documents, you can contact the Central Examination Office and apply for either a certified copy or a reissue of the documents. Both are subject to a fee in accordance with the university's current scale of fees (Gebührenordnung).
Where can I get notarisations, for example for my certificate?
You can have documents issued by the university notarised at the Central Examination Office and the Legal Department. However, this is subject to a fee according to the applicable scale of fees (Gebührenordnung).
When and how are tuition fees refunded?
Students who take a leave of absence or de-register after paying the re-registration fee can have the re-registration fee refunded. Information on this can be obtained from the Students' Registration Office.
