For some time now, gender theorists have argued that gender is not what you are, but what you do. In their own work (Crawley 2022), S.L. Crawley has argued: “my gender (race/class/sexuality) is not mine; it is ours.” In this public discussion, they demonstrate how gender and identity are constantly produced and embodied interactively with others (i.e., how we sit, how we walk, how we talk). In short, they argue: because gender is a constant, everyday production for everyone, we are all trans. Through this interactive discussion, they will engage the audience to practice and think through the production of masculinities and femininities in all our lives.
S.L. Crawley is a professor in the Department of Sociology & Interdisciplinary Social Sciences at the University of South Florida.
