Networks

The University of Greifswald is part of national and international networks. It also feels closely related to the region of Vorpommern. That’s why the University is a member of several associations and clubs.

The Greifswald University Club has set itself the goal of promoting cutting-edge research at the University of Greifswald. It helps by developing national and international networks and financing selected projects. The club supports specific projects or chairs or awards scholarships. Former professors and teaching staff continue to feel connected with the University.

The regional group Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Greifswald of the Deutsche Gesellschaft der Humboldtianer e.V. has two main goals. Firstly, it wants to provide current international scholars from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation with a network which will help them integrate into their new surroundings, for example by organising events, such as excursions to the surrounding area, or any further support concerning their stay in Greifswald. Secondly, it aims to increase the numbers of “Humboldtianer” in Greifswald and thus to strengthen or extend the position of the University of Greifswald as a part of the worldwide “Humboldt Family”.

The Society of Friends and Supporters of the University of Greifswald e.V. supports the University’s alumni work and also junior researchers. It supports research projects, colloquiums and conferences in an organisational, financial and advisory manner and annually awards PhD prizes for the best dissertations.

The Akademischer Börsenverein Greifswald e.V., with more than 250 members, is the largest student initiative and is amongst the top ten stock exchange clubs in Germany, measured by numbers. As a non profit organisation, the board members and the club members work free of charge and voluntarily to provide students with additional offers and to fulfil the University’s educational tasks.

The Gemeinschaft von Hochschullehrern im Ruhestand e.V. is an association of retired members of University teaching staff. The club keeps in contact with the University, accompanies its work by adapting a supportive and critical approach with the goal of retaining and promoting the national and international reputation of the University of Greifswald.
