Information on Reporting Accidents and on Reporting Accidents Involving Claims for Damages against Third Parties (including accidents occurring outside working hours)

This page provides you with all the information and necessary claim forms, sorted by category for students, salaried staff and civil servants, as well as for accidents involving claims for damages against third parties.

Dear Members of Staff, Dear Students,

Every accident resulting in physical injury or death is tragic. In such cases, those affected are particularly dependent on quick and unbureaucratic help. The University of Greifswald is committed to providing swift and effective assistance in such cases.

In order to be able to settle claims quickly through the federal state’s statutory accident insurance provider, the Unfallkasse Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, it is necessary to report accidents. The Unfallkasse M-V reviews the accident report and decides whether a reported accident is recognised as a work accident. Those affected will receive confirmation of the recognition of the work accident from the Unfallkasse.

A similar procedure applies to students and our public sector employees. You can find all of the claim forms here:

Dear Civil Servants,

The same applies of course to you: accidents that lead to injury are tragic. Here too, the University of Greifswald strives to provide help as quickly as possible. However, accidents involving civil servants must be reported to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance. In addition, the Ministry of Finance M-V will investigate whether a third party is at fault for accidents involving you. All accident report forms, forms for reimbursement of costs, and administrative provisions – guidelines for reporting and pursuing claims for damages transferred to the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern – can be found here:

Reporting accidents involving third parties

It is often not known that accidents and damage claims involving third parties – including private accidents – must be reported immediately. This applies both to civil servants themselves and to their dependants who are eligible for Beihilfe (state healthcare reimbursements). The State Government has therefore issued a circular providing information on how to report accidents where a third party is at fault or may be partly to blame. Details regarding which accidents are covered, who is affected, and where and how such accidents should be reported is available here:

Questions regarding accident reporting can be directed to the Health and Safety Office or to staff in the HR Department.
