The University of Greifswald has maintained close ties to universities in Russia for several years. These have been successfully consolidated recently due to various initiatives, instigated in particular by the University of Greifswald’s Rectorate. Dr. Alexander Sizikov will visit the University of Greifswald between the 20th and the 24th May 2019 as part of the current ‘Erasmus+ agreement’ with the St. Petersburg State University, the oldest university in Russia. As a language scholar, Dr. Sizikov is particularly interested in translations of the original Hebrew and Greek versions of the bible. Alexander Sizikov will hold lectures on the 21st and 22nd May on the theory and practice of biblical translations (21/05, 12.00-4.00 p.m., lecture hall 5, ‘Altes Audimax’) and on Christian schisms, also within the Orthodox churches (22/05 , 12.00-4.00 p.m. lecture hall in the annex of the ‘Alte Augenklinik’, Rubenowstraße 2B). Students, lecturers and anyone who is interested, in particular from the Department of Slavonic Studies and the Faculty of Theology, are welcome.
Prof. Dr. Christfried Böttrich, Dean of the Faculty of Theology, who has taken part in joint research activities with St. Petersburg for several years, is planning a further exchange of experience. The establishment of biblical studies at Russia’s state universities was supported by the long-standing collaboration with western European faculties through the international ‘Society for New Testament Studies’.
