These cores will be analyzed over the coming years as part of several international research projects, in collaboration with colleagues from China, Switzerland, and the UK. The working groups at the University of Greifswald will focus on micropaleontological and paleomagnetic investigations. The physical geography working group is seeking a doctoral candidate with a research interest in paleomagnetism. In collaboration with a colleague from the field of paleontology and researchers from Manchester and Newcastle, the primary aim will be to date the sediment sequence from Lake Nam Co. Additionally, in collaboration with the paleontology department and colleagues from the University of Bern, the project will explore whether periods of weak geomagnetic field intensity had an impact on biodiversity in this high-altitude ecosystem at 4,700 meters above sea level.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct paleomagnetic analyses on sediment cores from Lake Nam Co
- Evaluate and interpret the collected data
- Perform in-depth analyses in collaboration with national and international research partners and integrate their data
- Publish findings in international, peer-reviewed scientific journals
