European and Local Elections in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern 2024: Every Vote Counts!
Two important elections will be held on 9 June 2024: the European elections and the local elections. Why are these elections so important for our democracy? Here are some reasons:
European elections
- You get a say in who is elected to the European Parliament.

Local elections
- These are about your immediate surroundings in the municipalities and districts.
- You elect individuals to local parliaments and district councils who are responsible for the education, infrastructure, culture and social affairs, as well as the economy in your local region.
- The politics of the elected members of the municipal authorities and district councils have a direct effect on your everyday lives.

Information on the European elections
Citizens of the European Union can elect the Members of the European Parliament on 9 June 2024.
Not just German citizens, but all EU citizens that live in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are entitled to vote. Citizens of EU member states can be added to the electoral register. To do so, they must submit a request to the competent local authority. The authority will decide on the request and send out a polling card or a notification of refusal.

Information on the local elections
Elections will also be held for the district councils of the districts Vorpommern-Greifswald and Vorpommern-Rügen on 9 June 2024. The town council of the University and Hanseatic Town of Greifswald will also be re-elected.
