Finding the right nursery and school
Finding the right nursery...
The Vorpommern-Greifswald District provides an online nursery portal ( https://www.kitaplaner-mv.de/vorpommern-greifswald/elternportal/de/) where you can find a childcare facility that matches your individual preferences. By clicking on a search result, you can view the detailed portrait of the respective daycare facility. If a facility catches your interest, you can add a bookmark to it. By registering online, you pre-register with your desired nurseries and are automatically placed on the waiting list. The procedures for the steps following registration via the online nursery portal vary depending on the facilities and providers. Some facilities hold get-to-know-you meetings or organise open days. For information on further procedures, you can either check out the online profile of the respective facility, call the facility or pay it a personal visit.
Finding the right school...
The town of Greifswald runs five primary schools, two Regionale Schulen (secondary schools up to year 10), an integrated comprehensive school (up to year 12), two Gymnasiums (secondary schools up to year 12), an evening school, as well as a music school.
In addition to that, Greifswald is home to a vocational college, a school for children with learning difficulties, and an adult education centre (run by the District of Vorpommern-Greifswald).
There are also several independent schools: the Protestant Evangelisches Schulzentrum Martinschule, the Freie Waldorfschule Greifswald (Rudolf Steiner School), the Montessori School Greifswald, the Ostseegymnasium (incl. primary school), the children and youth centre Haus des Arbeitens und Lernens (state-approved school) and the Kinderkunstakademie Greifswald (all-day primary school).
The District of Vorpommern-Greifswald provides a comprehensive directory of the local schools here: https://www.kreis-vg.de/leben/bildung-kultur/schulverzeichnis. [de] Here, you are sure to find a school that suits your child.
