How Do I Finance My Doctoral Studies?

The University offers doctoral candidates the following financial and non-material grant possibilities:


Travel expense grants for the participation in conferences

The University takes account for the special situation of early career researchers by providing Travel Expense Grants for Doctoral Candidates and Postdocs of the University of Greifswald for the Active Participation at Domestic and International Conferences. Objective of the grant is the support of (international) scientific exchange and the presentation of research results. Applications can be submitted at any time. The start of the trip should not be planned for any earlier than eight weeks after submission of the request.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers scientists a Congress Travel Programme [de] from the start of doctoral studies.

There are currently 13 institutions for the intellectually gifted in Germany that are partially close to religion, parties, the economy or trade unions.

The German Academic Scholarship Foundation [de] - the largest and oldest institution for the intellectually gifted, which promotes the entire breadth and variety of ideologically, religiously and democratically anchored political backgrounds and values

There is also a number of smaller foundations that often fund specific subjects and subject areas, women in science, people of a certain social and regional origin or with research interest in certain countries.
