Resolving the functional protein nanoscale organization of the immunological synapse

Veranstaltung der UMG

On November 4, 2026 Prof. Bernd Wollscheid, Head of the Institute of Translational Medicine and of the Laboratory of Molecular Health at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zürich, will give a lecture as part of the Late Lunch Seminars on the topic "Resolving the functional protein nanoscale organization of the immunological synapse".

Bernd Wollscheid is a leading scientist in the development and application of next-generation molecular health technologies. He is Professor of Molecular Health and Head of the Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine at ETH Zurich, where he also directs the Biomedical Proteomics Platform of the Department of Health Sciences and Technology. His talk will cover two topics. Firstly, he will demonstrate how multi-omic and functional profiling of patient samples supports molecular tumor boards: In the Tumor Profiler Study, this data informed most treatment decisions in late-stage melanoma, and in the RAPID-01 trial, pharmacoscopy is now guiding therapy in leukemia. Secondly, he will present his lab's innovative light-controlled optoproteomic technology LUX-MS, which maps protein neighborhoods on the surface of living cells. With this technology, Bernd Wollscheid and his team have decoded the immunological synapse that the bispecific antibody glofitamab forms between T cells and lymphoma cells, identifying 48 ligand–receptor pairs and selected candidate combination partners that could help more patients reach complete remission.

The Late Lunch Seminars, the Medical Faculty’s scientific lecture series, aim to promote networking across a wide range of research topics. The talks include presentations from local scientists and external project partners as well as inaugural lectures by newly appointed professors. The lectures are primarily aimed at the scientific staff of University Medicine, the University and non-university research institutions in Greifswald.

The talk is open to the university public and will be held in English. Registration is not required.
