An overview of the results of the shape of a drum

Fellow Lecture

In this talk, we will give an overview on the results obtained at the question “Can we hear the shape of a drum“ asked by Mark Kac in 1966. We will revisit the mathematical meaning of this question and describe it. In particular, we will review the famous Faber-Krahn inequality and some if its generalisations.
 
Georges Habib started his independent career in 2008 at the Lebanese University in Beirut after a postdoc in 2007 at the Max Planck Institute for the Mathematical Sciences in Leipzig. Georges Habib received the Alexander von Humboldt fellowship for experienced researchers, a  DAAD grant  and is involved in several research projects. Georges Habib got an Habilitation (HDR) from University of Lorraine in 2021 and is an associate member of the Institut Elie Cartan de Lorraine. In the academic year 2022/23 he is a senior fellow at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg.
