From describing new plant species, sampling chimpanzees killed by Ebola and documenting the importance of the Congo Basin rainforests in global carbon cycle and weather patterns, White became a bridge between science and policy, transitioning to become Gabon's Minister of Water, Forests, Sea and Environment and speaking for 1.3 billion Africans at the Glasgow Climate Change Conference COP26.

Lee James Taylor White
An expert in tropical ecology, conservation biology, and wildlife management, he has worked across equatorial Africa for over 40 years, advancing biodiversity protection and ecosystem management. While serving as Gabon’s Minister of the Environment, he developed national conservation policies and helped establish 53 protected areas. Prof. White holds dual British and Gabonese citizenship and is a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
