This workshop invites researchers in early leadership positions to explore the Impostor Phenomenon from a psychological and professional development perspective.
We will discuss its defining characteristics and the scientific models that explain why it occurs, particularly in research environments. Through reflection and guided exercises, participants will examine underlying beliefs about competence and success, and how these influence their leadership behavior and well-being. Finally, we will develop strategies to counteract impostor feelings, strengthen confidence, and foster a sustainable academic identity.
Learning goals for participants:
- Getting to know impostor phenomenon and its characteristics
- Learn explanatory approaches
- Differentiate from and compare to mental health
- Learn strategies to strengthen self-esteem and one’s own capabilities
- Explore Impostor Phenomenon in leadership positions
Methods:
The workshop includes both a prepared presentation and interactive methods (1:1 and small group exchange). Practical exercises are designed to encourage the participants' self-reflection. The group format includes a truspul sharing, constructive feedback and aims at strengthening the self-confidence of the participants.
Shorter breaks and a lunch break are scheduled during the full-day workshop.
