The Normalization of the Radial Right

The lecture series “Democratic Challenges in Europe” explores current challenges facing democracies in Europe, particularly in the Baltic Sea region. The lectures address topics such as emotional polarization, political representation, and minority policy, and encourage open discussion. All interested parties are warmly welcome.

Vicente Valentim is an assistant professor of political science at IE University. He earned his PhD at the European University Institute in July 2021. Before joining IE, he was a Postdoctoral Prize Research Fellow in Politics at Nuffield College, University of Oxford, where he remains affiliated as an associate member.

He studies what citizens think is acceptable to do in a democracy, why that is, and how it changes
