Online Guest Lecture: Digital Edition of Joachim Lelewel’s Correspondence

Onlinevortrag

Joachim Lelewel (1786–1861) was one of the most important Polish historians, slavists, numismatists, heraldists, and political figures. A recent digital humanities project at the Institute of History of the University of Warsaw has made available the correspondence of the young Lelewel with close family members from the years 1799 to 1811 in a digital edition.

The online lecture will present the project with a particular focus on the digital humanities–specific methods and tools employed. Topics will be

· The TEI standard in digital editions of correspondence
· Tools used by the team during the work (TEI Publisher, Oxygen XML Editor, and GitLab)
· Using external databases in the process of annotation and adding photographs of the sources
· Differences and similarities compared to a printed edition (non-linearity, data filtering, different ways of interacting with the text and the source)
· Advantages and disadvantages of different solutions, as well as further possibilities for working with the edition developed by our team
