The Nagoya Protocol is an agreement under international law that regulates access to genetic materials of animal and plant origin. Since 2014, all researchers have been required to prove that they have permission from the countries of origin to conduct research with genetic materials or traditional knowledge of these materials. Failure to comply with the Nagoya Protocol can result in penalties ranging from fines to the withdrawal of publications!
The University of Greifswald is aware of the importance of compliance with this international framework and supports its implementation. In this information event, after an introduction to the topic, we will provide you with guidance on how to deal with the provisions of the Nagoya Protocol and the related EU regulation on due diligence. Step by step, we will go through what researchers need to know and do in order to fulfil their obligations under the Nagoya Protocol and the EU ABS Regulation. You will learn about the consequences of non-compliance and tools and tips for staying up-to-date on Nagoya and ABS requirements. There will also be time for your questions.
